I'm an educator with an interest in instructional technology, a fiddler who plays with the symphony, and a Labradorer with the cutest chocolate bear you ever did see. My name is Nicole, and these are the things that tickle my fancy.
While speaking with a fellow labradorer at work the other day, I found myself in yet another conversation about how our beloved pups have the tendency to destroy toys. I'm always on the search for "tough toys," and Nylabone Dura Chew is just that. One of Nylabone's greatest qualities is that they are long lasting, which is a money saver! My 60 pound chocolate lab and my parents' 70 pound black lab adore the Nylabones. It is their go-to toy, and it keeps them occupied for long periods of time. It takes months before the bones need to be replaced, and that should be done once the knuckles of the bone have been worn away. Nylabone products are made of a synthetic polymer that are designed into a bone shape. They come in bacon, liver, chicken, and original flavors. Nylabones are designed to be strong, but of course, persistent chewers may prevail, and small rice-sized pieces may raise up and flake off the bone. As long as these pieces remain small they will safely pass through the dog's digestive system. From the description on the Nylabone website, the bones are "designed for powerful chewers. Bristles raised during chewing help clean teeth and control plaque & tartar build-up."
If your dog is an extremely aggressive chewer and is ripping off larger pieces, it is recommended that you take away the bone. As always, whenever introducing a toy to your pooch, be sure to provide supervision until you can judge how your dog is handling the toy. Visit Nylabone on Facebook or check out the Nylabone website to find the product that is right for your dog!
